Care of safety, protective and special work shoes I. Ensure that the shoes you select are suitable in terms of the protection required and with regard to the conditions in which they are to be worn.
II. Ensure the shoes are the right size and are comfortable. (Statistics show that more than half of all women buy their shoes one size too small).
III. Ensure that damp or wet shoes with leather uppers are not quick-dried i.e. by means of an external heat source. Shoes should never be placed near a radiator to dry. The leather dries out, becomes brittle and can tear very easily.
TIP: simply stuff the shoes with newspaper and leave them to dry overnight - this withdraws the moisture from the leather.
IV. The actual life of shoes depends on the following factors: - ambient conditions (use of correct footwear) - care (soiling and decomposition of the product) - frequency of use (you need a pair to change into if you work for 8 hours and more every day wearing the same shoes).
V. In the event of the shoes being damaged, it is possible, under certain circumstances, that they no longer offer the full, specified protection. In such cases, the shoes should be replaced immediately.
VI. In the case of anti-static shoes and footwear which are required to offer good skid-resistant characteristics, it is important that the soles are in a completely soil-free state. (Soiling can have a considerable effect on the shoes anti-static rating).
VII. Ensure the profile of the sole is in good condition. Shoes with worn profiles should be replaced immediately.
Leather is a natural product and requires care. |
